Press Conference by H.E Sheikh Hamad Bin Jassim Bin Jabr Al-Thani,
First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the State of Qatar & H.E. Mr. Percival James Patterson the Prime Minister of the Republic of Jamaica, President of G77.

Doha, June 16th, 2005

Just after the closing session of the G77 Summit this Thursday, a press conference was given by H.E Sheikh Hamad Bin Jassim Bin Jabr Al-Thani, First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the State of Qatar & H.E. Mr. Percival James Patterson, Prime Minister of the Republic of Jamaica.

The Qatari Minister of Foreign Affairs expressed his satisfaction for a successful Summit and called for the follow up of conclusions by all member countries. He also reiterated the support of the State of Qatar towards the least developed countries.

Mr. Percival James Patterson stated that this summit has been the most successful, promoting the interests and goals of the developing countries. Mr. Patterson praised the outcome of the Summit which adopted the Doha Declaration and The Doha Plan of Action, and agreed upon the creation of a Special Development Fund for developing countries. He expressed his thanks for Qatar's donation of 20 million Riyals and to the commitment of China and India to participate.

Mr. Percival James Patterson also briefed the audience regarding other issues discussed, such as the South-South cooperation, the North-South dialogue and the UN reforms.

The Jamaican Prime Minister expressed his satisfaction and the satisfaction of all delegations, and then thanked the State and people of Qatar as well as the team of experts who helped with the preparation and the success of the Summit.

To the question, why haven’t other countries except China and India expressed their intention to contribute to the Special Development Fund? The answer was, that all delegations were already in Qatar before the announcement was made, and some of the countries need sometime as they have adjustment programs in their countries.
