Press conference by His Excellency Nassir Abdulaziz Al-Nasser, Permanent Representative of Qatar to the United Nations,
His Excellency Nasser Excellency Nassir Abdulaziz Al-Nasser, Permanent Representative of Qatar at the United Nations stated in a press conference on Monday June 13th 2005, that the Foreign Ministers of the member countries of the G.77 and China adopted two documents at the end of their meeting. The two documents are the Doha Declaration, and the Doha Action Plan, these documents will be presented to the Heads of State and Government at their meeting on Wednesday 15th of June.
Answering to a question regarding the reform of the United Nations and its Security Council, the possibility of his restructuring, His Excellency answered that the organization of the Non Aligned Countries which is part of the G77 will meet and debate the reorganization of the United Nation as well as the widening of the Security Council.
Concerning the bilateral relations that can hinder the efforts and the collective work of the group, the Ambassador of Qatar specified that the G.77 consists of poor countries and others other relatively comfortable. But it is in the general interest of all countries to strengthen cooperation among them, and also strengthen the cooperation with the rich countries; therefore it's crucial that good understanding is required to be able to forward. The state of Qatar plays a major role in the help of the countries of the south.
The fact that we accept to ho this summit of the G.77 is the best testimony our help will.
Concerning the proposal of cancellation off the debts of 18 countries by G8, the Qatari diplomat said the G77 welcomes the decision, with satisfaction, but it's more important to help these countries to rely themselves and to strengthen bilateral and commercial cooperation, which is a lot better than debts annulment expectation.
To the question to know if the south-south cooperation can be an alternative to the South North cooperation, M. Al-Nasser answered that it's a difficult alternative, is not advisable and doesn't into the interest of anyone. The second summit of the South came at the right time, and the citizen of the concerned countries will notice shortly the positive outcome of it.
At last, the Ambassador precise that no organization possesses constraining decisions power. The G 77 consists of countries whose economic capacities are unbalanced. They discuss among themselves to reach a process of negotiations with their partners. Now one can say that they are on the right track.
